Beit Yatziv is an educational campus located in the Old City of Be'er Sheva. It was founded in 1953 and today is owned jointly by the Rashi Foundation and theBe'er Sheva Municipality, which are both committed to preserving its character and mission as an educational facility serving the residents of Be'er Sheva and surrounding areas.
Beit Yatziv contains a multidisciplinary center for adult education and classrooms for educational enrichment for school children, particularly in the subjects of English and Astronomy. There is also a conference center where institutions and companies from throughout the Negev hold seminars for their employees, making use of the onsite guesthouse and lecture halls. The campus also serves students who are preparing for higher education in science and technology, and hosts an English summer school. The campus contains a large dining hall, a swimming pool and the municipal library.
Beit Yatziv is home to the southern office of the Open University and the national teachers-training center for Jewish history in the (secular) state education system and for civics and democracy for the entire education system. Various public organizations are also based at Beit Yatziv, including the Council for a Beautiful Israel and the Society for Preservation of Heritage Sites.
Rashi Foundation programs operated by Beit Yatziv include a wide range of educational initiatives throughout the southern region aiming to promote excellence and close gaps, among them the Madarom project in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Ilan Ramon Physics Center, science summer camps and more. With the opening of the Madarom Science Park, currently under construction next to Beit Yatziv, the two facilities will be integrated to create a unique community campus for education, hospitality and recreation. |
