Katzir Scholarship Program

Higher education, brighter future

Higher education is a passport to social and economic advancement. However, the financial cost and social and emotional challenges of student life put an academic education beyond the grasp of many Israelis. The Katzir Scholarship Fund, named after Israel's fourth president and one of the first members of the Foundation's Board, was established by Rashi In 2001 in order to help young adults from disadvantaged populations overcome these hurdles and realize their potential through higher education.

Support all the way through

The unique approach of the Katzir Fund is intended to create an envelope of support – financial, educational and emotional – to allow the students to complete their studies successfully. From the first year until attaining the degree, the students enjoy assistance with the tuition and living expenses, as well as individual support, enrichment programs and scholastic reinforcement. At each academic institute, a specially appointed coordinator is on hand to follow the students' progress and offer help as needed.

Nurturing social leadership

In the belief that every student has the ability, as well as the responsibility, to contribute to society, we aim to cultivate their social awareness through community work. In several programs the students participate in group activity that develops their leadership potential and the commitment to translate the ideas into action. As individuals or in a group, they volunteer in a wide range of frameworks – schools, community centers, clubs for at-risk youth, and more.

Growth through partnership

Over the years, we have been able to broaden the scope of the activity through a network of partnerships. While targeting different populations according to each partner's areas of interest, all the programs focus on groups whose chances of acquiring an academic education without assistance remain slim, such as single mothers, graduates of youth villages, Ethiopian immigrants and others.
