The Ilan Ramon Youth Physics Center, inaugurated in January 2007, is located in the newly-built Sacta-Rashi Physics Building at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. The integration of the Center within the Physics building has, with the assistance of the university faculty, significantly upgraded the quality of physics instruction for teenagers, and is enabling hands-on learning activities for some 8,000 youngsters from 15 localities across the southern region.
| The Center houses a modern physics laboratory for 12th graders, a computerized physics laboratory, a planetarium and roof-top observatory, and a general physics lab for the study of mechanics, optics and electricity. In addition to offering applied studies for all southern high school pupils matriculating in physics, the Ilan Ramon Center also assists pupils in preparing individual projects in physics, and identifies and advances gifted pupils. The Center is managed by the Madarom administration. |

Objectives
• Advancing the study of physics in high school and raising the number of pupils who choose to study physics for matriculation
• Improving matriculation results
• Increasing the number of physics and engineering students in academic institutions
• Offering a range of challenging and attractive activities, including national and international programs
Ilan Ramon Center's Program of Activities
The Center's programming falls into three divisions:
For Junior High: Visits to the Center for exposure to Physics and Astronomy.
For High School: In cooperation with schools in Be’er Sheva and across the region, pupils from operate a Physics lab as part of the course of study.
Excellence Development: Matriculation courses, international Physics competitions.

In 2009, for the first time, a student of the Center published an article in an international Physics journal that was presented at an international conference in Australia.
In 2010, a project developed at the Center won 1st place in the “First Steps to Nobel Prize” competition, and two other projects won an honorable mention.
In three years, the number of students completing the highest level Physics final project has jumped from 11 to 42, constituting HALF of all the students nationwide undertaking this ultimate matriculation challenge!
