The shelter serves abused women escaping from abusive relationships, who need protection and support that will enable them recover from the trauma and open a new chapter in their lives. It is situated in a custom-designed, spacious and comfortable facility built by the initiative of the Rashi Foundation to replace the old shelter, which was too small and not suitable for this purpose.
As a mid-sized facility, the shelter can house 12 women and up to 36 children. It is operated by the Yahdav Association at full capacity and accommodates every year about 160 women and children from all sectors of the population.
Helping these victims of domestic violence is a staff that includes social workers, children's counselors and a director who accompany the women and children throughout their stay in the shelter. In addition to physical protection, emotional support and legal assistance, the women are taught life-skills and parenting skills. Special attention is given to empowering them, strengthening their confidence and self-image in preparation for living independently after they leave the shelter. The children also benefit from therapy, homework assistance and varied enrichment activities, with a personal plan prepared for each child.
